Ile Rousse

The small town of Ile-Rousse, Isola-Rossa in Corsica, owes its name to the red rocks that have created islets including the Isola de la Pietra and its lighthouse. Created by Pascal Paoli around 1759, Ile-Rousse was firstly a port to cut off maritime traffic between Genoa and Calvi.

The city was built, little by little, first with Piazza Paoli, decorated with its beautiful plane trees, then the old town, Via Nuestra Señora and its beautiful cobblestones, and then the Church of the Immaculate Conception.

If you're an early riser, you can enjoy the charms of the city while it's still asleep... Craftsmen and shopkeepers are slowly settling down under the Covered Market next to the Paoli Square, before the first customers arrive around 7 am to buy the fruits and vegetables or the honey and local cold cuts.
If you were not on time at the port when the fishermen arrived, buy your fresh fish at the market.

Come and visit us at Le Bon Café roasting plant, or we will be pleased to welcome you in this magical place, unchanged since 1932.
Roasting on site and old-fashioned, sale of coffee and tea, collection of grinders and jute bags, not to be missed!

The city centre is bordered by the mythical Marinella promenade, ending at the "Tino Rossi" square, and its half ruined Genoese tower. Ile-Rousse and La Balagne are steeped in history. Come and spend unforgettable holidays, we will be able to advise you as much for the cultural, religious or sporting heritage as for the restaurants, Above all for the restaurants, we are bon vivants and very greedy!

There is so much to do and discover in Balagne: wander through the small villages of the micro-region, go hiking or splash around in the clear waters, you don't have time to get bored and Corsica is full of little secrets! We have concocted for you a bucket-list of activities and Balanine visits, follow the guide...

Tra Mare… Between sea…

At 10 minutes by car, you will find the first beach closest to the one of Ile-Rousse. Dominated by the Ile de la Pietra, this beach is the only one in Corsica located in the city centre. Park and dive head first!

If you find it too touristy and want to get off the beaten track, 20 minutes from the residence on the road to Bastia is Les Agriates and its Ostriconi beach, turquoise waters and scrub are on the program!

Rather calvais side you also have the choice: to pass by Ghjunchitu while tasting a good fish, on the beach of Bodri or the Navy of Davia and its hot rocks to sunbathe quietly.

If you wish to rent a boat, go diving or jet-skiing, don't hesitate to ask us, maps will be available in the apartments and at the reception.

E monti… And mountain…

Starting from the Residence itself, you can walk along our trails.
The view from the top of Monte Sant'Angelo (Mount Saint Angelo) is breathtaking! A short hike in the middle of nature to enjoy and share the time of two or three hours round trip. This small peak overlooks the convent of Corbara and the church of the Annunziata. From the top of its 562m, you will have a 360 view of L'Île-Rousse, Corbara, Algajola, Pigna, Sant'Antonino, the Reginu Santa-Reparata and many others…

For a little morning jogging there is simpler, start on the Place Paoli in small strides, pass in front of "L'Encre", admire the sunrise on the Marinella up to the port of Ile-Rousse and then attack the ascent of the Lighthouse of Pietra, it's worth the detour!

Let's leave Ile-Rousse and head for Calvi... A small stop in Lumio to go to the old village of Occi: renovated chapel and old houses in ruins, this small village has kept all its charm. The hike is very easy and the departure is behind the Hotel Restaurant "A Casa di Mà".

Difficult hike, starting from the chapel of Notre Dame de La Serra, the most beautiful panorama of the Calvalese city, protected by the Virgin Mary on her rock.
The Cross of the Austrians on Capu di A Veta is a heavy cross 8 meters long, with a wingspan of 5 meters and a total weight of 830 kg. This magnificent cross has been part of the Calvi heritage for almost 60 years.

If you're good sportsmen here, we can take on the big guys...
The mythical GR20, departing from Calenzana only 25 minutes by car from the Residence. Enchanting setting, between river and mountain, 15 stages, from Calenzana to Conca, crossing from north to south, 180km, positive difference in altitude of about 11,000 metres. You have to hang on and be prepared for it, but it can be the most beautiful experience of your life!

As for the sea side, if you wish to rent bikes, go hiking with a professional guide, go canyoning or go on excursions, flyers will be at your disposal!
